After a call to an environmental call centre, environmental officers observed liquid hog manure entering the creek and numerous dead fish in the creek downstream. The investigation found the hog manure leaked into the creek after a hog farm’s owner overfilled a lagoon. The farm pleaded guilty to allowing the deposit of a deleterious substance into water frequented by fish. The court ordered it to pay $50,000 to the federal Environmental Damages Fund [Shooter’s Hill Livestock Inc., Govt. News Release, Dec. 17, 2015].
