When you discipline a worker, it’s typically for conduct on the job. But in some cases, you may be justified in disciplining—even firing—a worker for off-duty conduct, provided that conduct meets certain criteria. However, before you can discipline workers for off-duty conduct, you must notify them of this possibility. The best way to do so is through a written off-duty conduct policy.
HOW TO USE THE TOOL
Tailor this policy to be consistent with the rest of your company’s policies on worker conduct, include it in your employee handbook or the like and give it to all workers.
