Yarn Maker Fined $75,000 for Partial Arm Amputation


A worker for a yarn manufacturer opened the cover of a machine used to create yarn and found excessive fibres. When he tried to remove them, his finger got caught. His arm was drawn into the machine and partially amputated. The manufacturer pleaded guilty to a guarding violation and was fined $75,000 [Waterloo Textiles Ltd., Govt. News Release, Aug. 17, 2011].
