Oct. 8: Train Carrying Hazardous Materials Derails

More than two dozen cars derailed from a CN freight train carrying grain, hydrochloric acid, caustic soda, anhydrous and petroleum distillate. The petroleum product ignited, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the sky. Nearby residents were evacuated. The Transportation Safety Board sent a team of investigators to the site. CN sent in a HazMat crew to clean-up the area.
