Oct. 18: Charges Against Federal Government Recommended in Engineer’s Death

Federal health and safety officers are recommending that safety charges be brought against the federal government in connection with a boiler explosion that killed an engineer in Ottawa. Another worker was seriously injured. An investigator found that the company that serviced the boilers wasn’t certified to do so, the plant didn’t have proper emergency procedures and workers working on the boilers hadn’t been shown the standard operating manual.
