The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) says in its report on the 2009 fatal floatplane accident in Lyall Harbour, BC that more can and must be done to make floatplane travel safer. From 1989 to 2010, 76 people have died in Canada in 109 floatplane crashes. The TSB’s two “common sense” recommendations: doors and windows that come off easily after a crash and everyone should be required to wear a personal flotation device.
