Sawmill Explosion & Fire Costs Company More than $1 Million

On January 20, 2012, there was a fire and explosion at a sawmill in which two workers died and many were injured. WorkSafeBC found the mill company to be in violation of the Workers Compensation Act and OHS regulations. It imposed an administrative penalty on the company of $97,500 and a claims cost levy of $914,139.62, for a total of $1,011,639.62 [Babine Forest Products Ltd., Govt. News Release, April 3, 2014].
