Safety Talk: Safety Data Sheets in the Globally Harmonized System

BENEFITS

The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) was created by the UN to classify and label chemicals so as to ensure that companies and workers across the world have consistent and appropriate information on chemicals and their hazards. Canada is expected to implement GHS. In fact, draft regulations to implement the system were released in June 2013. But you shouldn’t wait until GHS is in force in Canada to start training workers on certain aspects of GHS.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Give this safety talk to workers to start getting them familiar with Safety Data Sheets or SDSs, which will replace the MSDSs currently used under Canada’s WHMIS system.
