Roofing Company & Owner Fined $47,000 for PPE Violations

A roofing company was convicted of six OHS violations for failing to ensure workers wore fall protection, protective headwear and protective footwear. The company’s owner was also convicted on three charges for failing to ensure workers wore fall protection. The court found that a previous conviction and $4,000 fine imposed two days before the events on which the latest charges were based was an aggravating factor and so a more significant fine was appropriate. Thus, the court fined the company $33,000 and the owner $14,000 [Sunny Roofing Inc. and Dong Mo, Govt. News Release, Sept. 11, 2015].
