Roofer Loses Appeal of $10,000 AMP

A worker was hit on the head by a bag of debris weighing 18 kg that was tossed off a roof. The employer was socked with an administrative monetary penalty of $10,000 for failing to ensure that workers participated in the field level hazard assessment. The employer appealed, arguing among other things, that it wasn’t the prime contractor for the site. But the Alberta Labour Relations Board ruled that the penalty was reasonable and refused to reduce or overturn it [Heritage Commercial Roofing, Board File No. OHS2021-10, October 27, 2021].
