Refinery Penalized $500,000 for Fisheries Act Violations

An investigation conducted by Environment and Climate Change Canada found that a refinery had, on six occasions, failed to comply with a directive requiring rehabilitation and environmental monitoring work issued after the deposit of a deleterious substance in water frequented by fish. The refinery pleaded guilty to six violations of the Fisheries Act. The court fined it $120,000 and ordered it to pay $380,000 for the financial benefits it obtained through these violations.
