Yacht Club Penalized $6,500 for Destroying Swallow Nests
An investigation by Environment Canada revealed that about 40 swallow nests were destroyed when repairs were being made to a yacht club’s breakwater that had been damaged by a storm surge. The yacht club pleaded guilty to violating the Migratory Birds Convention Act, 1994. The court ordered it to pay $6,500 to the Environmental Damages Fund [Pointe du Chêne Yacht Club, Govt. News Release, Feb. 9, 2012].
