Preparing for Another Hurricane Season

Hurricane Leslie was downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it struck Newfoundland on Sept. 11. But its strong winds and heavy rains still managed to down power lines and trees and rip off some roofs.

Luckily, there were no reports of serious injuries. But as Leslie was moving out to sea, a new storm named Nadine was forming in the Atlantic and could become a hurricane later in the week. Looks like this hurricane season could be a busy one.

You can get information on approaching storms from the Canadian Hurricane Centre, including Information Statements, Watches and Warning Bulletins. But to adequately protect your workplace and workers from storms such as hurricanes, you have to prepare long before a storm actually forms.

So when developing emergency response plans for your workplace, make sure that they address extreme weather conditions, such as hurricanes, tornadoes and blizzards.
