Older Worker Safety Checklist

BENEFITS

When workers start to get older, they become more at risk for certain injuries and more vulnerable to certain hazards. For example, their hearing may not be as sharp and so they may not be aware of oncoming motorized equipment, such as forklifts. In addition, they may no longer be able to lift as much weight or stand for as long. Employers can’t discriminate against workers based on age but they must ensure the safety of older workers, such as with accommodations.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Use this checklist to assess whether your company and its OHS program is taking reasonable steps to ensure the safety of older workers.
