Oct. 8: Fuel Spill in Northern Qu‚bec

The M/T Sarah Desgagn‚s was transferring fuel to the community of Salluit, west of Ungava Bay, in Northern Qu‚bec in preparation for the upcoming winter. Strong winds and snow required the transfer to be stopped for safety reasons. After the standard emergency disconnect process, the fuel line was severed by the vessel’s propeller, spilling about 3,000 litres of fuel. Impacts to the shoreline, fish and wildlife in the area are being assessed by Environment Canada.
