Falls Through Skylights Toolbox Talk Handout

BENEFITS

The OHS laws require employers to protect workers from not only falls from heights but also falls through openings in roofs, walls, work platforms, etc. Skylights in particular pose a serious hazard because although they’re covered openings, the covers can’t usually support a worker’s weight. So it’s important that workers who work on roofs that may have skylights are aware of the potential hazard they pose.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Adapt this handout for your operations, OHS program and the requirements in your jurisdiction’s OHS laws. Give it to workers as part of a safety talk on the hazard of falls through skylights and how to avoid them.
