Model Hot Work Permit

PRIMARY SOURCE

Before you use this tool, you may want to read the further analysis presented here.

BENEFITS

When so-called ‘hot work’ such as welding or grinding is done in the presence of flammable or combustible materials or flammable gas, a fire or explosion can result. One way to manage the risks associated with hot work and to adequately protect workers doing such work is through a hot work permit program. A hot work permit identifies the work to be done, the hazards involved in that work and the safety precautions to be taken.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Adapt this model permit for your company’s operations, OHS program and the OHS laws in your jurisdiction. Ensure that a permit is completed before any hot work is performed in the workplace. And make sure that workers and supervisors are trained on the hot work permit program.
