Mining Company Penalized $30,000 for Metal Mining Effluent Violations

Following an investigation by enforcement officers, a mining company was charged with failing to perform acute-lethality sampling of effluent and failing to notify an inspector following a deposit out of the normal course of events. It pleaded guilty to two violations of the Metal Mining Effluent Regulations under the Fisheries Act. The court ordered it to pay a $5,000 fine and $25,000 to the federal Environmental Damages Fund.
