Mining Company Charged with Criminal Negligence for Worker’s Death

A worker who was repairing equipment at a mine was seen to be in medical distress and was treated by on-site medical staff. But he later died of acute cyanide intoxication. As a result, the mining company was charged with criminal negligence causing death under the Criminal Code. The Ministry of Labour has until June 2016 to lay any additional charges under the OHS Act [Detour Gold Corp., April 22, 2016].
