March 7: Tanker Crash Results in Large Fuel Spill

A tanker truck lost control and crashed in Caledon. It’s currently unclear why the driver lost control. The back tanker of two fell over in the crash and began leaking, dumping about 23,000 litres of gasoline. But the leak has been contained. The leaked fuel flowed into nearby ditches and a catch basin. A pumper truck removed what fuel could be seen. In addition, soil tainted by fuel was removed. The spill occurred near the Glen Haffy Conservation Area, home to wetlands and a fish hatchery that raises rainbow trout. The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change was on the scene.
