Machine Guarding Checklist

BENEFITS

The OHS laws require employers to install guards on machinery and equipment that has pinchpoints, energized parts and other hazards that could endanger workers using or working near that machinery. But remember—the OHS laws require “adequate” or “effective” guards. So it’s important to select the appropriate guard for each piece of equipment.

HOW TO USE THE TOOL

Use this checklist to ensure that the guards on your machinery and equipment meet all of the requirements under the OHS laws, including the design requirements. Adapt the checklist for your workplace and its equipment and the machine guarding requirements of the OHS laws in your jurisdiction. If there’s an issue with one of the requirements, note the corrective action needed to address that issue and, once that action has been taken, note the date on the form.
