The Open for Business Act, 2010, which passed Third Reading with Royal Assent and Proclamation now pending, will require workers, where appropriate, to notify their employer through regular mail, email, fax or phone before an employment standards claim will be investigated. The idea is that most employers want to do the right thing and will often remedy the situation promptly and voluntarily once notified. This requirement can be waived for vulnerable workers, though.
