Oct. 13: City Closes Arena over Health & Safety Concerns

Melfort shut down its Main Arena due to concerns about the condition of the roof and the indoor air quality. After a visitor complained about the smell inside the arena, a city building official inspected the facility and found disintegration and deterioration of the roof structure from water leaks, and black mould. An air quality test also came back positive for black mould and wood rot. One reason for the decision to close the arena: concerns that snowfall this winter could cause the roof to collapse.
