May 4: Protect Outdoor Workers from Ticks

SafeWork Manitoba reminded employers that outdoor workers are at risk of being exposed to parasites, bacteria and viruses spread by ticks, as well as tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease. Some occupations at risk include construction, landscaping, farming, forestry, railroad work, oil field work, utility line work, brush clearing, land surveying, park or wildlife management. Ticks live in tall grass and wooded areas and are usually active in the months of April through October, with peak activity from June through August.
