May 16: Use of Recorders in Locomotives Proposed in New Bill

The Minister of Transport introduced a bill proposing amendments to the Railway Safety Act  and the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board Act, one of which would require the installation of locomotive voice and video recorders, specify the type of uses that can be made of the recordings, and provide authority for Transport Canada to make regulations governing such recorders. The recordings would provide essential information to investigators about crew member activities and interactions leading up to and during an incident.
