March 6: New Cancers Added to Presumptions for Firefighters

The government added three types of cancer to those that could be presumed to be occupational diseases suffered by firefighters: breast cancer, prostate cancer and multiple myeloma. Firefighters developing those diseases after a certain period of time on the job would be eligible for workers’ comp benefits without having to prove the cancer is work-related. A list of such cancers has now grown to 10 and includes brain cancer and leukemia.
