March 19: New Regulation Could Impose More Asbestos Duties on Employers

On Dec. 27, 2012, the government published a draft regulation that would require employers to take additional measures with respect to the potential presence of asbestos in facilities where their employees work. If it takes effect this spring as expected, the amendments to the Regulation respecting occupational health and safety would obligate employers to inspect buildings “under their authority” to locate and, if necessary, repair the heat insulating material and flocking present in those structures.
