July 17: Lead Exposure at Mine Leads to Stop-Work Order

A stop-work order was issued for the Sa Dena Hes Mine after 10 cases of lead exposure were discovered. The Yukon Workers’ Compensation Health and Safety Board received injury reports from 17 workers in total. Blood samples were taken from five workers to determine the extent of their lead exposure. The board also ordered the mine owner to provide blood samples from more than 200 people who’ve worked on the project since it began.
