July 17: Forest Fire Smoke Poses a Hazard

With smoke clouding the air due to forest fires throughout the NWT and into Alberta, the Chief Public Health Officer for the NWT said the best way to limit smoke intake is to cut down on physical activity. Inhaling the smoke could trigger spasms of the airways, worsen asthma, make it difficult to breath and cause burning in the eyes and tickling in the throat.
