Ambulance NB is phasing out nearly all of its 24-hour shifts as part of an effort to provide a safer workplace for patients and paramedics. Fatigue and lack of sufficient rest periods increase the potential for workplace errors and patient-care errors. Unlike firefighters who are normally based at a station where sleeping quarters are provided, paramedics in New Brunswick are often seen cruising between calls or parked in strategic locations within their coverage area.
