The number of workplace injuries resulting in lost-time compensation claims in NL during 2009 dropped below 4,000 for the first time in 50 years. There were 3,999 lost-time injury claims in 2009, down from 4,255 in 2008. The last time this figure was below the 4,000 mark was in 1958. However, the number of workplace fatalities increased to 25, the highest in 20 years.
