Employer Must Pay $800 Penalty for Improper Storage of Compressed Gas

An inspection of a workplace revealed that compressed gas cylinders weren’t being properly stored under WHMIS standards. The employer was ordered to pay an administrative penalty and appealed. The Panel reduced the penalty to $800, noting that although the employer had made some efforts to prevent the violation, it was lacking in some areas, especially its storage practices [Re: Le Groupe Master S.E.C., [2010] NSOHSAP 12 (CanLII), Sept. 17, 2010].
