Sept. 4: Second Incident Involving Falling Equipment at Oil Rigs
At one of Newfoundland’s offshore oil rigs, a 700 kg cooler fell about three metres. No one was hurt. But it was the second time in two weeks that a heavy piece of machinery was dropped on a rig. Previously, a 2.4-metre hydraulic cylinder fell 12 metres on another drilling rig. Officials described that incident as a near-miss that could have resulted in a fatality had the cylinder hit someone.
