July 19: After rejecting the project a year ago, the Nunavut Impact Review Board has changed its mind and okayed the Sabina Gold and Silver Corp.’s Back River gold mine. But the company will have to agree to the Board’s environmental conditions to get a project certificate. The mine is expected to cost $400 million to build and employ roughly 800 people over its 11-year production lifespan.
June 14: WSCC issued a warning to seasonal morel mushroom workers: If you want workers’ comp coverage, you won’t get it through your employer. Instead, you need to buy Personal Optional Coverage from the WSCC.
