Workers’ Comp Filing Deadline
Jan.: Nova Scotia is the second province to announce plans to harmonize its OHS regulations in accordance with national standards. Manitoba was the first. Provisions affected: first aid kit contents, eye, face, foot and hearing protection and personal flotation devices.
Jan. 31: The WCB finalized revisions to Psychological Injury – Policy 1.3.9R on implementing the new workers’ comp presumption that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is work-related when suffered by frontline and emergency response workers. Highlights:
- Must be proper PTSD diagnosis under American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)
- PTSD must be acute response to one or more work-related traumatic events
- Doesn’t cover stress from termination, discipline, changes in work conditions, interpersonal relations with co-workers and other “labour relations issues.”
