Dec.: Having concluded public comments, the WSCC began reviewing its coverage rules for post-traumatic stress and other psychiatric and psychological disorders. Under current Policy 03.09, which hasn’t changed since 2003, disorders caused by mental stress are covered only if they’re caused by a single sudden and unexpected traumatic event or series of traumatic events at work, which leaves the majority of workers for whom onset is gradual out in the cold.
Dec. 5: The Govt. of Nunavut wants to impose new quotas for hunting of caribou by non-residents. Under the current systems, caribou harvest limits apply to designated herds based on the particular herd’s population; the limit for the 6 non-designated herds is 2 caribou per year. The territory wants to establish restrictions for those 6 herds and limit the number of non-resident hunters who can come to Nunavut and harvest to those limits.
