Jan 5: Safe Work Manitoba will spearhead a widespread government effort to create an industry-based safety program that self-insured employers can use as a path to achieve SAFE Work certification and lower workers’ comp premiums. Because self-employment isn’t industry-specific, no such industry-based program currently exists for the sector.
Jan. 7: Safe Work Manitoba issued new guidelines to help employers develop and implement a hearing conservation program. Such programs, which involve noise exposure assessment, engineer controls, hearing protection devices and dedicated training, are required in workplaces where workers are likely to be exposed to noise exposure levels above 80 dBA (Lex).
