Nov. 15: A newly tabled private member bill (#999) proposes Labour Standards changes to protect workers from burnout and help them balance work and family obligations:
- Worker right to refuse overtime and know their work schedule at least 7 days in advance
- Add 2 more statutory holidays (March 8 and May 1)
- 3 weeks’ vacation after 1 year of employment and 4 weeks after 2 years
- 10 paid social leaves.
Nov. 24: The government announced nearly $80 million worth of enhancements to the Ecocamionnage program which incentivizes companies to cut greenhouse gas emissions and achieve energy efficiency. The enhancements include allowing freight-haulage companies to participate and raising the ceiling for financial assistance to companies that purchase hybrid, electric or alternative fuel vehicles from $70K to $100K.
