June 2: The WCB refused to release a list of the workplaces with the highest number of worker injuries in defiance of a decision by the province’s top freedom of information watchdog. The Halifax Chronicle Herald requested this information plus the identities of 79 employers who were fined in 2007 for having safety records that were at least 200% worse than their industry averages over four years. When the WCB refused to provide the information, the newspaper went to the freedom of information regulator, which ruled in its favour. The WCB continues to refuse to disclose the material so now the paper is suing in NS Supreme Court to force it to comply.
