May 23: Fire at Recycling Plant Leads to Quarantine
A six-hour industrial fire broke out at a plastics recycling plant in Windsor. Officials asked residents within a 1.5 km radius to stay in their homes and avoid the potentially toxic fumes from the burning plastic. About 75% of the nearly 57,000 kg of plastic was burning at the site. After city staff released an announcement that the air quality levels were acceptable, residents were allowed to leave their homes.
