March 7: Well Explosion Injures 12 Workers
Twelve people were injured in an explosion and fire at a natural gas well west of Edmonton. The workers were injecting a substance into the well to try to produce more natural gas before the explosion. The facility produces what the industry calls “sweet gas,” a natural gas that doesn’t contain deadly hydrogen sulphide. Alberta Occupational Health and Safety, the Energy Resources Conservation Board and Husky Energy are investigating.
