The proposed Employment Standards (Domestic Violence Leave) Amendment Act, 2017 would amend the Employment Standards Act to provide leave for victims of domestic violence. If enacted, an employee who requests such leave will be entitled to up to 10 days of paid leave and up to 17 weeks of unpaid leave. In addition, the proposed amendments would require employers to accommodate employees who require variation of their assigned work as a result of domestic violence. Bill M 235 – 2017 passed its first reading on March 7, 2017.
