March 30: Fracking Moratorium Won’t Be Lifted Until Conditions Are Met

Despite calls from businesses for the lifting of the moratorium on hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”), the government said it won’t do so until all of its conditions are met. The government had set out five conditions when it imposed the moratorium, including a plan for regulations, wastewater disposal, a process to consult First Nations, a royalty structure and a so-called “social licence.”
