March 2: Disease Protection for First Responders to Take Effect
A law that gives first responders peace of mind about potential disease exposure will take effect on March 2, 2013. The Emergency Intervention Disclosure Act recognizes that emergency personnel are at a higher risk of coming into contact with other peoples’ bodily substances. If an exposure occurs and a blood sample isn’t given voluntarily, a court order can now be obtained to require individuals to give one. The communicable diseases to be tested for: HIV, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C.
