June 19: Offshore Healthy and Safety Law Gets Royal Assent
The Offshore Health and Safety Act received Royal Assent. The Act will ensure the safety of offshore workers by clarifying roles and responsibilities, increasing transparency, covering workers in transit to offshore platforms and providing enforcement powers for OHS officers. The Act amends the Canada-Newfoundland Atlantic Accord Implementation Act and the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Resources Accord Implementation Act. The federal government is in discussions with NL and NS to set a date when the law will take effect.
