June 13: Young Workers May Need Safety Certificates for Summer Jobs
The government reminded residents that youth aged 14 and 15 looking for summer jobs must complete the Young Worker Readiness Certificate Course. The mandatory course, which can be taken at www.lrws.gov.sk.ca/ywrcc, teaches youth about their rights and responsibilities as it relates to health, safety and labour standards in the workplace. Young workers may apply for jobs and go for interviews before completing the course but must provide a copy of the completed certificate to their employer on or before their first day of work. And all 14 and 15 year-olds must have the consent of their parent or guardian in order to work.
