July 21: Pipeline Spills Oil into North Saskatchewan River
A Husky Energy pipeline spilled 200,000-250,000 litres of oil into the North Saskatchewan River. The spill was contained at the release site and the company placed booms across the river to capture any oil coming downstream. The pipeline, which runs from Husky’s heavy oil operations to its facilities in Lloydminster and carries oil mixed with a diluent, was shut down. Water samples were being taken from the river.
