Jan. 7: CN Train Carrying Hazardous Substances Derails
A CN freight train carrying crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas and other goods derailed and caught fire. Only two people were on board the train, the conductor and engineer, and neither was hurt. A preliminary investigation by CN found that a failure of a wheel or axle or both on the 13th car caused 16 more cars near the rear of the train to go off the tracks. The incident is under investigation.
