Jan. 28: Two New Review Mechanisms for Pipeline Projects
The government has added two new review mechanisms to how major new pipeline proposals are assessed. All resource projects will be assessed in part on the GHG emissions produced “upstream” in the extraction and processing of the oil they propose to carry. The government will also appoint a ministerial adviser, who’ll consult with indigenous communities along proposed pipeline routes. The new reviews will be carried out apart from and in addition to deliberations by the National Energy Board.
