The BC Safety Authority issued nine recommendations in the wake of its investigation into two sawmill explosions and fires last year. The recommendations, which are directed at mill owners and operators, the Office of the Fire Commissioner and the CSA, include:
- Qualified professionals should identify areas in sawmills with dust hazards that could catch fire and those areas should be included in the facility’s fire safety plan
- Mills should develop better ways to manage wood dust
- The CSA should classify wood dust as combustible.
